News from the General's Kitchen:

We have gone from feeding about 160 students a day in the past to now serving 360 to 400 free lunches now.  Unfortunately, we are going back to paid status. With that being said, we want the families to visit the Titan portal on APS website to fill out the free and reduced application form starting July 1st for the next school year. On Titan, you can also add money or pay negative balances. 

We have enjoyed helping your students on this journey of food.  We hope they found something they enjoyed eating and we hope they will be ready to try new things next year. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me by email or phone.

Yearbook

Last Call For Yearbooks - If your student has not yet purchased a yearbook there is still time. Students can swing by Mr. Kuhn's classroom (room 20) during passing periods with $40.00 (cash or check made out to Eisenhower Middle School) to reserve their copy. A limited number of copies are available so act now as they will likely sellout fast! *Yearbook will be distributed starting on May 24th.

Athletics

Current 8th graders interested in high school athletics should contact the head coach of the desired program to find out about summer clinics as well as tryout requirements and expectations. Contact info can be located on the individual high school websites. Reminder, a physical examination using the NMAA physical form dated on or after April 1, 2022 is required for student participation, including tryouts. It is recommended that students get physicals completed over the summer. NMAA packet link is located on the EMS athletics webpage.

A Note from the Health Office

  • Medication Pick-up:  Stop by the Health Office anytime between 8:15 and 3:00 during the month of May to pick up your child's medication.  Please note that only emergency meds can be sent home with students, i.e., EpiPens, inhalers, etc.  All as-needed prescription and over-the-counter meds must either be picked up by a parent or guardian, or they will be destroyed on the last day of school.  Please email Paula Kelley, Health Assistant, at Paula.Kelley@aps.edu to let her know how you'd like us to proceed with any meds or supplies brought into the Health Office.
  • All 7th graders are required to have the Tdap and Meningococcal (Menactra) immunization for registration. Please remember to ask providers about these during well-checks.
  • Please encourage your student to bring water bottles and stay hydrated.

  • Have a wonderful, safe, and relaxing summer!

Calendar Reminder

The Last Day of School for EMS students is May 31 @ 11:30 am. Breakfast will be served, but not lunch.

 

End of the Year Important Dates

  • On May 23, Eisenhower will host a 6th Grade Play Day during 5th, 6th, and 7th periods

  • On May 26, Eisenhower will host 7th Grade Field Day on campus during 5th, 6th, and 7th periods.

  • 8th-Graders have two remaining end-of-year activities:

    • Main Event on May 23 from 9:15am - 2:45pm

    • Promotion Celebration on May 24 from 8:30am - 11am in the gym

A Note from the Counseling Center

Summer School Registration for soon-to-be 9th graders will take place at Eisenhower April 4th-May 31st. This year, incoming Freshmen can only take Physical Education (PE) during summer school. Summer School sites will include Del Norte HS, Manzano HS, Rio Grande HS, Valley HS, and e-Cademy. Full price tuition is $250 per semester (Freshmen must complete two semesters of PE to meet the 1.0 credit graduation requirement.), but students who have Free or Reduced Lunch applications on file with APS may be eligible for reduced tuition fees. All summer school fees must be paid through ParentVue. Please have interested students connect with their School Counselor to register.

Information for 22-23 School Year Student Drop Off/Pick Up 

It is not safe to drop off children more than fifteen (15) minutes before school or to leave them for more than fifteen (15) minutes after the school day ends.

• Gates/Doors at EMS will open at 8:00 AM.

• Students are not allowed on the EMS campus until 8:00 AM (unless approved by EMS Staff or Administration for limited special events)  

• Parents must not leave their children on a school campus longer than fifteen (15) minutes either before or after the school day 

• School grounds are not supervised outside the school day. Safety is our main focus. 

• Parents/guardians are expected to follow the school’s policy or procedure for drop off/pick up

Volunteer with APS

While encouraging family and community participation, we must consider the safety of every child in the district. State law requires a background check from volunteers before participating in any volunteer activity at any APS school.

  • APS background checks are valid for two years.
  • After completing and submitting the Volunteer Clearance Request, the background check may take 7 to 10 business days to process.
    Clearance decisions may take longer if any instances appear in the background check.
  • You must complete the Payment section in the Volunteer Clearance Request before you can submit your application and begin the background clearance process.

End of the Day Student Safety

A friendly reminder that afternoon duty teachers will make sure to remind students to exit fences safely by 3:15 pm. We want to ensure students are on their way home as we do not have duty staff on the campus after 3:15 pm. Students are welcome to wait in the pick-up locations or use the school phone to call a family member to pick them up. Students attending an afterschool event or club are welcome to report directly to that location. Please know that safety is our main concern.
